Using Brass Music for Weddings: Tips and lists of Brass Ensembles
Brass music adds a regal touch to any Orlando wedding. At the beautiful royal English weddings you will always hear the triumphant sound of the long fanfare trumpets. Brass music adds a sense of importance, regal atmosphere and pomp and circumstance. There are many different brass soloists and brass ensembles to fit a variety of types of wedding ceremonies, size of venues, and budgets and they are all available in Orlando and throughout Florida.
When it comes to making a strong regal statement at your wedding, the fanfare trumpets and/or a brass quintet or brass choir really stand out. Brass instruments can be heard without amplification in large venues and have the capability of playing softer for smaller venues. If you have a very large wedding venue and want a big sound, the larger the brass ensemble is, the louder the music can be. Even the largest brass ensembles like the brass quintet and brass choir still have the capability of playing softer for smaller wedding venues. Whatever you choose, brass music for weddings is always regal.
SMALL BRASS ENSEMBLES AND SOLOISTS FOR WEDDING MUSIC
Musicians are paid per person so for weddings on a budget a soloist or a small ensemble works best. Some of the nicest and most budget friendly choices are:
- Solo Trumpet
- Solo Piccolo Trumpet (smaller and higher pitched trumpet)
- Fanfare Trumpet (the very long trumpet used for fanfares)
- Trumpet and Organ
- Piccolo Trumpet and Organ
- Trumpet and Piano
- Piccolo Trumpet and Piano
- Trumpet Duo
- Piccolo Trumpet Duo
- Fanfare Trumpet Duo
- Trumpet Duo with Organ
- Piccolo Trumpet Duo with Organ
- Trumpet Duo with Piano
- Piccolo Trumpet Duo with Piano
- Brass Quartet (two trumpets, trombone & tuba or two trumpets and two trombones or two trumpets, french horn and trombone)
The fanfare trumpeters in this list add such a wonderful regal presence to weddings but are best used for fanfares (e.g. before the brides entrance). They are often not the best choice for complete songs for wedding processionals (walking down the aisle) or wedding recessionals (walking back down the aisle after the ceremony).
These brass ensembles and soloists work well for classical/traditional wedding music and other styles. If you are using unconventional music you can replace the trumpeters with other instruments to fully create a non-traditional atmosphere. Using brass with unconventional music can add a sense of balance and please a variety of guests. You can also replace the trumpeters with other brass instruments, like trombone or french horn, while using traditional music for a more unconventional sound.
LARGE BRASS ENSEMBLES FOR WEDDING MUSIC
For a more dramatic effect, the larger wedding brass ensembles are breathtaking. The look and sound are truly royal and have the capability of great volume when needed for large wedding venues. Some of these brass ensemble choices are:
- Brass Quartet
- Brass Quartet and Fanfare Trumpets
- Brass Quintet (two trumpets, french horn, trombone and tuba)
- Brass Quintet and Fanfare Trumpets
- Three, Four or more Fanfare Trumpets
- Brass Choir (also called Brass Ensemble)
- Brass Choir and Fanfare Trumpets
- Antiphonal Brass Choirs (Brass Choirs or Brass Quintets on two, three or four sides of the venue). To hear this effect listen to the Antiphonal Brass Choirs of Gabrieli.
- Antiphonal Brass Choirs (Brass Ensembles) and Fanfare Trumpets
Percussion may be added to any of the larger brass groups.
Whether you go with a dramatic large ensemble, a smaller brass ensemble or a brass soloist, using brass music for your Orlando or Florida wedding will set a classy and regal tone that your guests will remember.

Why Use Classical Music for Your Orlando Wedding Ceremony Music?

SivanPhotography.com
Classical music is one of the most popular choices for Orlando wedding ceremony music. Using classical music for wedding ceremonies adds a sense of sophistication and class. There are many other reasons that classical music works wonderfully for wedding ceremonies and is so popular. I will discuss some of them and you can decide if classical is the right choice for your wedding music.
When you are shopping for a wedding dress most brides want something that will not look silly and dated in pictures and videos years from now. Most brides look for something more timeless. When it comes to choosing wedding ceremony music, couples often do not think of timelessness and select music of the current trend. Current music makes a statement that day but when looking back at videos 25 and 50 years from now will you think, “what was I thinking?” Classical music has stood the test of time for hundreds of years and will always sound timeless.
What tone are you trying to set for your wedding ceremony? The music plays an important role in setting the wedding ceremony tone. If you are having an elegant, sophisticated, royal or luxurious wedding, classical music will set the tone. Classical music is so varied and vast that it can be used for almost any tone and many themes like: winter wonderland, autumn, spring, summer, flowers, simple, fun, Halloween, Christmas etc.
Religious wedding ceremonies often have music restrictions. Choosing classical music from the large variety of sacred classical music can easily fit any church’s wedding music guidelines. Some religions and churches also have restrictions on what instruments can be used and most classical ensembles are acceptable under these restrictions.
Most traditional wedding ceremonies have a somewhat serious tone to accompany the serious and important nature of the vows being taken. Using classical music can help highlight the importance and significance of these important vows.
When selecting music for your wedding ceremony it is important to think about all of your guests. One kind of music that everyone can enjoy and won’t offend anyone’s ear or sense of taste is classical. It won’t be too harsh or loud for your older guests. Although classical music may not be what all of your guests normally listen to, it is used so frequently in TV shows, commercials, movies and schools that it’s something that everyone can relate to in some way.
Below are some examples of Classic Music Wedding Ensembles that are popular and add a sense of sophistication and class.

Wedding Music Do’s and Don’ts

The music for your Orlando wedding ceremony and reception will be one of the most important factors in setting the tone for your special day. This wedding music advice article of do’s and don’ts will help make your wedding day a day that you and your guests will always remember.
Do
- Check for volume and time restrictions for music at your venue
- Seat older guests away from loud music and speakers.
- Include your culture in the wedding music. Ethnic instruments, songs and costumed musicians for the ceremony or reception can add a personal touch to your wedding music.
- Ask your married friends about what they liked and didn’t like about their wedding music.
- Ask your wedding musicians and band for ideas. They are professionals and if you tell them what tone or theme you are trying to set they will often have great ideas.
- Hire full time professional musicians with wedding experience. Your wedding is not the time for someone’s first wedding gig.
- Make sure your wedding venue has enough room you have for the number of musicians you are using.
- Have music for the cocktail hour or while your guests are waiting for your arrival.
- Have the ceremony music reflect who you are.
- Have the some reception music reflect who you are but have music for all ages.
- Pick a first dance song that holds a memory or has meaning for you as a couple.
- Take dance lessons for your first dance song.
- Have the wedding planner or someone else coordinate with the reception band about the announcement of the bridal party, special dances, toasts, cake cutting, guarder and bouquet toss. Have the band announce these events.
- Use music to set the tone at the wedding ceremony and reception.
- Find out if the wedding band plays continuous or takes breaks. All professional wedding bands will have cds of music to play during breaks. There is often a higher fee for continuous music.
Don’t
- Call wedding musicians that don’t have recordings and a web site. Any professional musician with experience will have these resources available to you.
- Make your wedding too long with too much featured music or solos.
- Forget to ask your musicians for referrals. Wedding musicians are usually very familiar with the other wedding vendors and venues and can share valuable information with you.
- Wait until the last minute to hire wedding ceremony musicians and a wedding reception band. Good musicians are often booked for peak days and seasons a year in advance.
- Forget to find out about overtime possibilities and prices from your wedding band ahead of time.
- Give your wedding band a strict play list. They are experienced in playing for the crowd and keeping everyone dancing.
I hope that these tips will help you have beautiful and memorable wedding music to make your day special. For more articles with tips on wedding music in Orlando, Central Florida, Tampa and Florida visit the Music Remembrance Blog.

New Orleans Band Parade
A New Orleans band parade is historically for funerals and are now used for funerals, weddings and events. The New Orleans parade was originally performed by dixieland jazz bands or dixieland brass bands in the early 1900’s. The dixieland band processes to the grave site performing slow sad music like “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”. After the funeral service the band plays upbeat dixieland songs like “When the Saints Go Marching In” to celebrate their loved one going to heaven to be with God. Now the celebratory part of the tradition is also used for weddings and events.
The New Orleans band parade is often called “second line” parade. This is because when the parades were first done, there would traditionally be a “second line” of people marching along with the band.
Events Using New Orleans Band Parades and Music
- Funerals: Traditionally the parade is at the cemetery. The dixieland band processional leads family and friends on foot, or in cars, to the gravesite. The band performs slow jazz funeral music until everyone gathers at the graveside. After the service the dixieland jazz band performs upbeat New Orleans jazz music to celebrate their loved one’s transition to heaven.
- Memorials: New Orleans jazz music at the memorial service. The band provides prelude music (music before the memorial service), service music hymns and postlude music or parade out of the service music. The postlude or exit processional parade music is traditionally upbeat second line music celebrating a love one’s transition to heaven.
- Weddings: Use jazz brass band parades for your wedding ceremony recessional (walk back down the aisle at the end of the wedding ceremony) for a memorable surprise for your wedding guests. Some wedding couples like A parade starting right after you walk back down the aisle. The most popular New Orleans wedding parade is a parade from the ceremony to the cocktail hour or the cocktail hour to the reception. What a fun surprise for your guests instead of being herded from cocktails to the reception. A trumpet performing a fanfare to get everyone’s attention and then inviting everyone to join the parade.
- Conventions/meetings: Wake up everyone at your morning meetings with a New Orleans Brass Band parade though the room performing fun interactive music. Imagine your CEO leading the parade with a traditional New Orleans umbrella.
- Parties and Events: Nothing livens up a party more than dixieland jazz music. Choose soft background music or a fun lively performance.

How to Use Music For the Events of the Wedding Reception

There are many different events of the wedding reception that will be greatly enhanced by music. Here is a guide on helping you in your choice of wedding reception music for the various events that make up a wedding reception.
This is a list of the events that are traditionally accompanied and enhanced by music with descriptions on how it can be done effectively.
Cocktails
If you are having a cocktail hour before your guests enter the main room you can hire a small pop or jazz group, classical musicians from your ceremony, solo guitar, or many other small ensembles. Many brides and grooms hire a small ensemble from within the reception band or musicians from the ceremony because they can receive cost savings.
Music Preceding the Bridal Party Entrance
Traditionally the reception band performs background music while your guests find there tables and await the wedding party entrance. If you would like to get the party started right away you can request dance music.
Introduction of the wedding party
The typical format for the introductions is having the music start while an announcement is made by the reception band that the bridal party is about to enter. Music is played throughout the introductions. The music is played softly as the names are announced and louder as they make entrances. Another option is to have fanfare trumpeters play a fanfare before each name is announced and the band play only as they are they are entering.
First Dance
The first dance of the wedding couple is one of the most special events of the wedding reception. All good wedding bands will be happy to suggest traditional songs for this or fill your special request.
Mother/Son and Father/Daughter Dances
Ask your wedding band for a list of popular songs for these or make special requests. If you only know one dance step, make sure that you request something that will work well with that dance.
Toasts
The wedding reception band can play a fanfare. announce the toasts and introduce each toastmaster. Those proposing the toast should talk with the wedding band during cocktails to be shown microphone technique.
(A helpful article about proposing toasts) http://honeymoons.about.com/od/weddingsaway/ht/wedding_toast.htm
Cake Cutting
Music is played for the cake cutting and for the announcement of the cake cutting. The announcement is made and music is performed as your guests gather for the event. You can request a special song or have the traditional “The Bride Cuts the Cake” performed.
Garter and Bouquet
Some brides and grooms choose to omit some of these events. All of these events are accompanied by announcements, narration and music by the reception band.
- Taking off the Garter: The groom takes the garter of the bride. “The Stripper” is the traditional song but many brides make special requests or just request the wedding band select something more subtle.
- Garter Toss: Music accompaniment or a drum roll until the garter is caught.
- Bouquet Toss: Music accompaniment or a drum roll until the bouquet is caught.
- Placing of the Garter: The recipient of the Garter places the Garter on the leg of the bouquet recipient. “The Stripper” is the traditional song but many wedding couples make special requests or request that the wedding band select something more subtle.
Departure of the Bride and Groom
The wedding band announces the departure of the wedding couple and performs music as everyone gathers for the rice, bird seed or confetti throwing or bubble blowing.
These are some of the traditional events of the wedding reception that music are used in conjunction with.

What is Music Remembrance and Why Was it Started?
Music Remembrance was started to connect the finest full time professional musicians with those needing music while ensuring exceptional professional service.
We have been providing bands and music ensembles for wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions, parties, conventions, concerts, festivals, parades, graduations, church services, events and musical telegrams in Central Florida since 1990. Music Remembrance uses full time professional musicians from Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and the Symphony. Clients may use one of our ensembles or bands on the Music Remembrance web site or we can fill even the most unusual requests like marching bands and Ukrainian violinists dressed in costume.
Providing Professional Musicians
I started Music Remembrance because I saw that wedding couples, party and event hosts often seemed to have trouble finding quality entertainment for events. Most great musicians spend their lives performing and practicing and neglect to make any time for marketing and are thus hard to find. Because of this, many Central Florida, Orlando and Tampa wedding, party and event planners do not know the best professional musicians. In addition to this, some music consultants, live music web sites and music agents choose to use inexperienced musicians because they can pay them less and keep more profit.
I thought that someone should have a company that connects the best musicians in Florida with people needing music for wedding and events. It serves wedding couples and wedding and event planners while helping the virtuosic musicians find rewarding work where they are always among their finest colleagues.
Providing Professional Service
In addition to full time professional musicians often being hard to locate, I found that many musicians, bands, and ensembles do not always provide professional service. To me professional service means:
- Accommodating all of the clients needs and requests. Music Remembrance has a large number of musicians and bands to accommodate any musical request.
- Being set up early and solving potential problems
- Always being on time and knowing that bad traffic or a flat tire are not excuses for being late. A professional always allows time for emergencies.
- Providing a professional look. Always having the appropriate look for the event whether it is a clean and pressed tuxedos or costumes. Always having a look that is Camera ready for your photographer.
- That all musicians are always polite, accommodating and friendly to clients, guests and other vendors.
It is a blessing for me to serve others and share good music and professional service for Central Florida, Orlando and Tampa weddings, events, parties, telegrams, memorials conventions and more.

Hiring Wedding Musicians Who Are Excellent

Thinking about hiring musicians for your wedding ceremony? Here’s a practical article that can guide you in the process of hiring wedding musicians who are excellent.
As I attended parties, events and weddings in Orlando and Tampa, I noticed that there was a real lack of quality entertainment at most functions. Often all of the other vendors of a wedding or event were of superior quality but brides, grooms and party hosts were not able to find professional music ensembles and bands. Most of the ensembles and bands consisted of amateurs, part-time musicians without the full knowledge of performing for these functions, high school students and college musicians. This can cause several problems.
- The music does not sound good
- The musicians do not understand all the event needs and their functions. Here are some examples of of problems caused by this lack of knowledge. A wedding reception band leader does not coordinate with the other vendors to ensure the dinner music is timed with dinner, the dance music starts immediately after dinner and the cake cutting and other festivities are timed correctly. There is no mic available for speeches and MCing activities. The power needs have not been anticipated for the sound system and a fuse is blown. For wedding ceremonies, inexperienced musicians may not know how to end the music for the bridal processional and there will be long delays in-between the bridal party and the bridal processional waiting for a song to end.
Orlando and Tampa party and event hosts, brides and grooms often find it difficult hiring professional entertainment. I found that the reasons for this are varied. The top quality professional musicians often do not market themselves. There are many wedding and event music consultants that have wonderful web sites but send young or inexperienced musicians to events because they can pay them a lower fee. I have found that some wedding and event entertainment consultants keep 50% or more of what the clients pay.
Here are some tips on hiring excellent professional musicians.
- Ask the wedding music consultant how much the musicians get paid or for a break down of costs.
- Ask if the musicians are full-time professional musicians.
- Don’t ask if the musicians are the same musicians on the web site One thing that surprises most people is that you should not expect the musicians will always be the same musicians on the web site. Musicians may have moved, taken full time shows or have orchestra commitments. A good wedding consultant will have a large pool of full-time professional musicians that they put together that all know the music. Any time that a group claims you always get the same musicians is usually a red flag. This usually means the musicians do not have any other gig conflicts which means they are not superior in-demand musicians and do this part time.
- Ask your friends if any of them know a full-time jazz or classical musician. These musicians usually know who the top party and wedding musicians are.
After you receive the cost breakdown from your Orlando wedding and event music consultant remember that, in music and in hiring wedding musicians, you often get what you pay for. Full-time professional musicians have spent their lives in the practice room to perfect their craft and the ones that have done this charge accordingly. With this information I’m sure that you will have a great wedding, party or event with excellent music and without unexpected problems.
Tip: The best way to save money on your wedding music and most of your wedding costs is to have your wedding during a slow season and day.
Classical Music in wedding the segments of Ceremonies
Classical music in wedding ceremonies set an elegant tone for wedding ceremonies. Couples around the world often have the same questions concerning the use of traditional classical music for each segment of their wedding ceremony.
The most common question is, “What are the traditional pieces for the wedding ceremony and when do I use them?”
There are pieces that are the most traditional and popular choices when using classical music in wedding ceremonies. Below are lists of the most traditional choices for the different segments of your wedding ceremony. You can listen to these pieces on the our website or by performing a Google search of the titles.
Music For the Bridal Party Processional (Entrance)
The bridal party processional can be accompanied by several pieces if you have a large bridal party or would just like different songs for different members of the bridal party. The most traditional arrangement is to have the mothers, minister, groom and groomsmen enter to one soft piece that is not on the list below. (If the groomsmen are escorting the brides maids only the mothers minister, groom and best man would enter to this first song.) This would be followed by the flower girls, ring bearer, and brides maids entering to one of the music selections from below. There are of course many variations on this arrangement for different religions, cultures and preferences but this is the most common arrangement for bridal party entrance music at wedding ceremonies.
