How To Hire Orlando Brass Musicians: Choosing the right ones for you
To hire Orlando brass musicians, here are some questions to ask:
Are the musicians full time professional performers?
Many musicians will answer yes when they actually make there living another way but sometimes perform for pay. Ask if performing (not teaching or something else) is their only profession. This way your are insured to book experienced musicians. Just because a musician substitutes in a local symphony, does not mean they have the experience playing events that you deserve. You want musicians that spend their lives practicing their instruments and have encountered every thing that could distract during a performance and know just what to do. e.g. showing up and the power isn’t working. Professionals know to have battery lights. The wedding planner cues to start the bride’s song and then bride’s hair accessory starts to slip and needs to be fixed. A professional ensemble knows to set up so they can see the wedding party before they start to process and there will not be a problem. They will extend the bridal party music and do an extra long fanfare for the bride. Problem solved.
How many brass musicians routinely perform in the ensemble?
A professional ensemble will have several players that know the music for each instrument. This way if someone breaks their leg on your wedding day, another brass player that performs with the ensemble on a regular basis will step in.
Can you play special requests?
A professional ensemble will be able to perform any song that you may request.
What if I want the musicians to play a variety of music styles or a different kind of music for the cocktail hour?
This should not be a problem for versatile professional musicians. Ask your brass musicians if they can perform any jazz, classical or popular song you would like. Classical only musicians will have a problem doing this and will need to have arrangements written for this and often will charge extra.
Costs
The costs for booking brass musicians will depend mostly on the number of musicians you choose. e.g. A brass quartet will be less expensive than a brass quartet and a solo trumpeter will be the least expensive
There should be one price that includes all music you would like for the ceremony including prelude music (music before the ceremony while guests are seated) and postlude music (music while guests leave the sanctuary or location). There should be a package available to have the musicians stay for cocktail hour that will be less than hiring another ensemble for the cocktail hour. If you would like another group for cocktail hour, like a jazz duo, you can still save money if your uses some of the ceremony musicians. e.g. Brass quartet for the ceremony and a jazz duo of guitar and trumpet/flugel horn or trombone for cocktail hour. When choosing a musician that will need to be a classical and jazz expert, Music Remembrance will reserve the perfect versatile musician for you.
Music
A professional brass ensemble should be able to play any song in any style of music that you would like. Popular music choices for brass music groups are classical, jazz, Broadway, popular music and dixieland.

Fun Ideas for your Ceremony Music
Orlando wedding ceremony music selected today by most brides and grooms is personal to them. Most brides and grooms used to select from the same few traditional selections, e.g. “Here Comes the Bride”. Now it has become more popular to personalize your Orlando wedding ceremony music. Brides and grooms often pick wedding songs, wedding music ensembles or musical styles that are personal to them. If having unique and personal wedding ceremony music is something that you are thinking about, here are some fun and unique ideas.
- Have a dixieland band parade your wedding guests from your traditional ceremony to the wedding reception or cocktail hour location. This is a fun way to transition from a quite and romantic ceremony to a celebratory and party mood.
- Have a dixieland band parade the bride and groom down the aisle for the recessional after the wedding ceremony. This can be done instead of the dixieland parade to the reception if the reception site is too far for your guests to walk. This can also be done in addition to the parade to the wedding reception or cocktail hour location.
- Use nontraditional music for your Orlando wedding ceremony music. Many Orlando wedding couples choose to use music that is special to them rather than the traditional classical music. Music Remembrance had one couple that choose to have alternative 1980’s rock music like songs of “the smashing pumpkins” performed at their Orlando wedding ceremony. In order to make it more serious feeling and enjoyable for older guests they had the music performed by a classical guitar and bass duo. This way that had music that was unique and personal to them that still fit the tone they wanted to set for their wedding ceremony and their guests. If you are a jazz fan, romantic jazz ballads always make a beautiful edition to wedding ceremony music. They can be performed by vocalists or by instruments such as the trumpet, trombone, saxophone accompanied on piano or guitar. You could also have jazz ballads performed on solo guitar or solo piano.
- Use traditional music on nontraditional instruments. If you are a fun couple that would like to do something unique you may elect to have traditional classical wedding music played on nontraditional instruments. Electric guitar or electric guitar duo, electric guitar and bass duo, small rock band, singer with electric guitar, traditional organ with an oboe, english horn, french horn or other nontraditional instrumental soloist, bagpipe ensemble, solo bagpipe (has a limited classical repertoire), accordion, blue grass band, banjo or steel guitar are just a few choices.
- Use instruments that are special to you. If you met your fiancé at a concert, if you met your fiancé in a school band or at a concert, or if one or both of you play instruments you might consider using those instruments. If you met at a John Mayer concert you could use a guitarist/singer that performs his music. If one of you played trombone and the other piano a trombone and piano duet might be a fun and unique choice that your guests will enjoy.
- Ethnic music is a great way to personalize your Orlando wedding ceremony music. If you have an ethnic background or would like to pay tribute to a grandparent or parent from another country, Ethnic music can be so personal and unique. You can choose from using the style of music, the authentic ethnic instruments or both. I have yet to see a German band at a wedding so you could be the first in Orlando.
Whether you choose traditional music or something unique and personal for you, your Orlando wedding music will help set the tone and make your ceremony a day to remember.

Wedding Music Do’s and Don’ts

The music for your Orlando wedding ceremony and reception will be one of the most important factors in setting the tone for your special day. This wedding music advice article of do’s and don’ts will help make your wedding day a day that you and your guests will always remember.
Do
- Check for volume and time restrictions for music at your venue
- Seat older guests away from loud music and speakers.
- Include your culture in the wedding music. Ethnic instruments, songs and costumed musicians for the ceremony or reception can add a personal touch to your wedding music.
- Ask your married friends about what they liked and didn’t like about their wedding music.
- Ask your wedding musicians and band for ideas. They are professionals and if you tell them what tone or theme you are trying to set they will often have great ideas.
- Hire full time professional musicians with wedding experience. Your wedding is not the time for someone’s first wedding gig.
- Make sure your wedding venue has enough room you have for the number of musicians you are using.
- Have music for the cocktail hour or while your guests are waiting for your arrival.
- Have the ceremony music reflect who you are.
- Have the some reception music reflect who you are but have music for all ages.
- Pick a first dance song that holds a memory or has meaning for you as a couple.
- Take dance lessons for your first dance song.
- Have the wedding planner or someone else coordinate with the reception band about the announcement of the bridal party, special dances, toasts, cake cutting, guarder and bouquet toss. Have the band announce these events.
- Use music to set the tone at the wedding ceremony and reception.
- Find out if the wedding band plays continuous or takes breaks. All professional wedding bands will have cds of music to play during breaks. There is often a higher fee for continuous music.
Don’t
- Call wedding musicians that don’t have recordings and a web site. Any professional musician with experience will have these resources available to you.
- Make your wedding too long with too much featured music or solos.
- Forget to ask your musicians for referrals. Wedding musicians are usually very familiar with the other wedding vendors and venues and can share valuable information with you.
- Wait until the last minute to hire wedding ceremony musicians and a wedding reception band. Good musicians are often booked for peak days and seasons a year in advance.
- Forget to find out about overtime possibilities and prices from your wedding band ahead of time.
- Give your wedding band a strict play list. They are experienced in playing for the crowd and keeping everyone dancing.
I hope that these tips will help you have beautiful and memorable wedding music to make your day special. For more articles with tips on wedding music in Orlando, Central Florida, Tampa and Florida visit the Music Remembrance Blog.
New Orleans Band Parade
A New Orleans band parade is historically for funerals and are now used for funerals, weddings and events. The New Orleans parade was originally performed by dixieland jazz bands or dixieland brass bands in the early 1900’s. The dixieland band processes to the grave site performing slow sad music like “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”. After the funeral service the band plays upbeat dixieland songs like “When the Saints Go Marching In” to celebrate their loved one going to heaven to be with God. Now the celebratory part of the tradition is also used for weddings and events.
The New Orleans band parade is often called “second line” parade. This is because when the parades were first done, there would traditionally be a “second line” of people marching along with the band.
Events Using New Orleans Band Parades and Music
- Funerals: Traditionally the parade is at the cemetery. The dixieland band processional leads family and friends on foot, or in cars, to the gravesite. The band performs slow jazz funeral music until everyone gathers at the graveside. After the service the dixieland jazz band performs upbeat New Orleans jazz music to celebrate their loved one’s transition to heaven.
- Memorials: New Orleans jazz music at the memorial service. The band provides prelude music (music before the memorial service), service music hymns and postlude music or parade out of the service music. The postlude or exit processional parade music is traditionally upbeat second line music celebrating a love one’s transition to heaven.
- Weddings: Use jazz brass band parades for your wedding ceremony recessional (walk back down the aisle at the end of the wedding ceremony) for a memorable surprise for your wedding guests. Some wedding couples like A parade starting right after you walk back down the aisle. The most popular New Orleans wedding parade is a parade from the ceremony to the cocktail hour or the cocktail hour to the reception. What a fun surprise for your guests instead of being herded from cocktails to the reception. A trumpet performing a fanfare to get everyone’s attention and then inviting everyone to join the parade.
- Conventions/meetings: Wake up everyone at your morning meetings with a New Orleans Brass Band parade though the room performing fun interactive music. Imagine your CEO leading the parade with a traditional New Orleans umbrella.
- Parties and Events: Nothing livens up a party more than dixieland jazz music. Choose soft background music or a fun lively performance.

Great Party and Wedding Themes
Parties and weddings with a theme can be so spectacular and memorable. A themed event can set a tone of fun, majesty, or opulence.
When using a party or wedding theme, music can play an important role. Thematic music can elevate your theme to another level and really make the event memorable. Since you are going to have music anyway, thematic music can also save money in decor, special food, etc., by setting the mood with music. (We can help!)
After selecting a party or wedding theme, think about all the different choices of music ensembles, costumes and songs that you can incorporate. Orlando has unlimited choices for party and wedding musicians. If you combine themed music with a beautiful room and food you can’t go wrong
There are many party and wedding themes that I have seen done successfully and memorably. Here is a list some of these themes and some possible music choices to elevate the themed decor and food to an event everyone will remember.
- Winter Wonderland Theme: Wedding reception band in white tuxedos and the singer in a while gown with crystals. You could add winter themed songs in as well. Have the band bring a snow machine for special effect.
- Christmas Theme: String Quartet, Carolers or Brass Quintet performing holiday favorites in Norman Rockwell style carolers outfits or simply in tuxes with red bow ties. Add Santa Claus hats for fun.
- Spring Theme: With a flower filled room have a little tongue in cheek fun with a flower power band playing music or the 70’s.
- Roaring 1920’s: A lush 1920’s society orchestra or band, decked out in costume, playing the lush beautiful sounds for dinner and then roaring it up with dixieland music for the party.
- Sock Hop: 1950’s band in costume poodle skirts, greased back hair and rolled up jeans.
- Mardi Gras: New Orleans Dixieland Band in traditional New Orleans Parade Costume or bright mardi gras outfits. Make sure they bring the beads! It’s great to have the band process in or parade your crowd from the ceremony to the reception or from cocktails to the dinner location.
- Beach Wedding Theme: Have musicians in Hawaiian shirts, dresses and leis. The reception band can incorporate Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffet, calypso and other tropical songs, Add steel drums for that Caribbean resort feel.
- Western: County Western band for the reception and a solo guitarist/singer for the ceremony.
- Medieval/Renaissance; Medieval/Renaissance music played on authentic instruments from the time period by musicians dressed in period costume.
- Cultural Weddings: There are musicians that perform traditional or modern music from every country available.
- Princess: Nothing sets a more royal tone than fanfares performed on long fanfare Trumpets.
- Las Vegas: Wow your guests with a real Las Vegas style show and if you are looking for something on the lighter or humorous side, how about a singing Elvis at the ceremony?
- Masquerade: A string orchestra playing waltzes and songs for ballroom dancing while wearing costumes and masks will set the stage for your guests.
- New York Club: A jazz combo or a full big band playing swing music and of course the song “New York, New York”.
Whatever theme you pick you can find the right party or wedding music in Orlando. Remember to pick your theme very early in your planning so it will be easier to include in invitations, decor, party favors and the menu. Good luck and have fun with it.
How To Personalize Music For Your Wedding
If you rush through the process of selecting wedding songs and music ensembles you miss a great chance to personalize your special day. The right wedding musicians in Orlando will help you customize your music to make your wedding personalized and memorable.
Do you already have ideas about personalizing your music? Have your Orlando wedding musicians help you take it to then next level and “wow’ your guests.
Below are questions that can help you discover a way to personalize music for your wedding.
1. Do you, the couple, have a song?
Remember that if you have several songs that are special to you, they can be incorporated into the wedding ceremony or reception.
2. Do you play an instrument.? If one or both or you play guitar maybe a guitar ensemble would add that wow touch.
3. Do you have a favorite style of music. or band? If your favorite band is a punk rock band don’t limit yourself to using that music at the reception. Have a punk rock band play the prelude to your ceremony. If that would shake up your guests a little too much, then how about having your string quartet or guitarist play a mellow version of one of their songs?
4. Is there someone that cannot be at the wedding, or a family member that is no longer with you, that you would like to have there in a special way? If so, is there a song or style of music that you could include in the ceremony or ceremony prelude? Did a Grandmother love a certain hymn or big band music? Is your brother overseas a Bruce Springsteen fanatic? In personalizing music for your wedding, incorporate these ideas. They make for a memorable and meaningful wedding.
5. You wanted to have your pet at your wedding but the venue couldn’t allow it. Maybe a song that contains the pets name, or a song about dogs during the wedding prelude, dinner or dancing music.
6. Do you have a theme for your wedding? Here are some examples.
Irish: Bagpipes for the walk down the isle or an Irish band for dinner or for dancing. Have the musicians wear full costume for more effect.
Princess theme: The long fanfare trumpets playing a fanfare before the bride enters sets the tone.
Christmas wedding: A Norman Rockwell costumed brass quintet playing Christmas carols.
Mardi Gras or New Orleans theme: Instead of just having a dixieland band, have one in New Orleans parade band costume and have them march everyone from the ceremony to the reception throwing beads.
Music Remembrance has a variety of event musicians who would even dress up according to your event’s theme!
7. Like to add a little fun and humor? Don’t forget that you can do it with music. I will always remember a wedding that Music Remembrance played in Tampa. No one thought that the groom would ever marry, so the couple decided to have the Hallelujah Chorus performed after they were pronounced Husband and Wife. The guests loved it and they most likely still remember it.
You can have a lot of fun, and often save some money, setting a tone or theme when your use personalize music for your wedding. When hiring wedding musicians in Central Florida, think first of the tone or theme that you would like to set and then have your wedding music consultant guide you through the process of personalizing your music.
